President Barzani Meets US State Department Senior Advisor
Salahaddin, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRP.org) – President Masoud Barzani met with US State Department senior advisor Bret McGurk today to discuss tensions between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
President Barzani stressed the importance of genuine partnership and consensus-based decision-making in the Iraqi government and restated Kurdistan Regions position toward the political process in the country. He added that a good start would be for the Iraqi government to undertake some concrete steps towards the resolution of the problems facing the country.
For his part, Mr. McGurk reaffirmed full US support for the principles of partnership and power-sharing as defined in the Iraqi Constitution and in the Erbil agreement of 2010.
