Syrian Kurdistan's Kobane government calls for mobilisation against ISIS

KOBANE, Syrian Kurdistan,— As clashes continue between Kurdish YPG forces and ISIS in the Kobanê (Ayn al-Arab) area, the Canton government has declared a general mobilisation.

In the last three days around 100 al-Qaeda linked Islamic-jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria ISIS have been killed in clashes in the area.

In a statement the Canton government drew attention to the fact the ISIS attacks were taking place only 2 weeks before the anniversary of the 19 July Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) revolution. ISIS is said to have fired 3,000 mortars at the village of Zor Mexar in the last 3 days.

The statement emphasised that ISIS is attacking the very existence of the Kurds, and targeting civilians regardless of age.

The Kobanê government declared a general mobilisation and issued an appeal for support to political forces in all parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora.

Continuing clashes in Kobanê: at least 100 ISIS members killed

In the last two days over 100 members of ISIS gangs have been killed and lots of military equipment has been destroyed by the Kurdish YPG (People’s Protection Units) forces.  
Clashes in the village of Zor Mexar, 35 km west of Kobanê, have been continuing since 2 July.

It is reported that ISIS gangs have suffered heavy casualties against the resistance of the YPG forces in clashes around the villages of Zor Mixar and Xerab Eto.

According to reports, at least 100 jihadi-militants have been killed and lots of military equipment has been deactivated or destroyed.

Call from the YPG

One of the generals of the YPG, Mahmut Berxwedan, stated that while the resistance of the YPG against the ISIS gangs is continuing, he called on Kurdish youths to join the struggle of the YPG.

It is claimed that heavy weapons used by ISIS gangs in the clashes were brought from Iraq. ISIS gangs have taken control of a vast area in Iraq without a fight. 2 border gates out of 3 on the border of Iraq and Syria are under the control of ISIS gunmen. Rabia-Tel Koçer border gate is under the control of the YPG and the Iraqi Kurdistan Peshmerga military forces.


Since the beginning of March there have been waves of attacks on the Kobanê region. ISIS Islamic-jihadists have suffered heavy losses and their attacks have repulsed by YPG forces.
