Car bomb explosion rocks Iraqi Kurdistan capital, Erbil.
ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq',— A car bomb exploded in the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan region, Erbil, on Saturday, injuring several people, local television network Rudaw reported.

TV footage from the scene showed firefighters dousing the charred remains of a car, which blew up outside a technical college on the road from Erbil to Kirkuk. Several people were wounded but none killed in the blast, Rudaw said.

According to the local media, the explosion was caused by the detonation of a remote control bomb placed on a car at around 6 pm local time.

In a statement about the incident, Erbil’s security chief said that investigations are underway about the explosion, assuring the people that “the security situation is stable and things are under control".

The blasts come as Iraqi and Kurdish troops are fighting back an advance by the Islamic State jihadists in the north and as sectarian attacks have deepened the country's crisis.

Several people were wounded but none killed in the blast, Rudaw said.

Al Jazeera reporter from Erbil, said the explosion went off on a road near the office of thewww.Ekurd.net Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a group which has recently engaged in fighting against the Islamic State's Jihadi militants.

Kurdish security forces have been on high alert since Islamic State militants overran large swathes of Iraq, opening a more than 1,000 km-long (600-mile) front with the autonomous Kurdistan region.

Also two car bombs exploded in Kirkuk on Saturday exploded near buildings under construction that were used as observation positions by security forces, while the third struck the entrance to a market, killing at least 18 people and injuring 65 others.

The last major attack in Erbil was in September, when fighters launched a coordinated suicide and car bomb attack on the headquarters of the security services.
