Muslim confirmed
that 50 tons of ammunition were dropped to the Kurdish YPG forces in
northern Syria, pointing out “this is just the beginning, and more
weapons are to be sent.”

QAMISHLO, Syrian Kurdistan,— Redur Khalil, the
spokesman of the Kurdish forces of People’s Protection Units (YPG) in
Syrian Kurdistan blamed remarks by the Democratic Union Party (PYD)
co-Leader Salih Muslim on the YPG receiving U.S. weapons in Syria,
saying Muslim is only a politician who is not authorized to speak in the
name of the Kurdish forces.

The PYD is the political wing of the YPG militia.

“The statements issued by Mr. Muslim about the YPG military future
plans and the reception of weapons and ammunition from the U.S.-led
coalition forces are beyond his responsibility as he is only a head of a
political party,” Khalil said in a press conference in Kurdish city of
Qamishli in Syrian Kurdistan. The US military on Friday denied
claims that Kurdish forces in Syrian Kurdistan had snagged ammunition
from a massive airdrop that was intended for Syrian Arabs fighting
Islamic State jihadists.
“Mr. Muslim commented on a number of military matters he is not familiar with.”

“Muslim’s remarks reflect only his own viewpoint and his party’s (PYD). These remarks do not concern us at all,”

Khalil stressed, adding that Washington has announced earlier to whom they provided weapons.

US-led coalition forces on Sunday parachuted
50 tons of small-arms ammunition and rockets to rebels fighting IS as
part of a new program to work with and equip vetted rebel leaders.
Muslim confirmed
that 50 tons of ammunition were dropped to the Kurdish YPG forces in
northern Syria, pointing out “this is just the beginning, and more
weapons are to be sent.”
It is known that the YPG forces have direct links with the PYD, but
Khalil’s statements reflect deep rifts between the YPG leadership and
the PYD, ARA news reported.
“The division between both political and military leaderships in the
Kurdish areas proves that Syrian Kurds are working institutionally in
their areas,” a YPG official told ARA News.
Turkey this week summoned US and Russian envoys to warn against supplying arms and support for Syrian Kurdish forces fighting IS in Syria.
