YPJ to announce the liberation of Raqqa today YPJ is expected to make a statement on the liberation of Raqqa today.

Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) will make an official statement at Raqqa’s al-Naim Square today regarding the liberation of the city from ISIS following a battle of 135 days.
The al-Naim Square is where ISIS committed mass executions in a display of power aiming to spread fear among the people. The square has been decorated with huge banners of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan as well as flags of YPG, YPJ, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Shengal Women’s Units (YJŞ) today.
YPJ fighters are gathering at the square where they arrived chanting “Bijî Serok Apo” [Long Live Leader Öcalan], “Bijî berxwedana YPJ’ê” [Long Live YPJ Resistance] and “Bijî berxwedana Şengal’ê” [Long Live Shengal Resistance]. The female fighters are joining a huge halay, a Kurdish traditional dance shoulder to shoulder.
The press statement will be followed by a ceremony to celebrate the victory against ISIS in the so-called capital of caliphate.
