Sweden Summons Iraqi Envoy on Execution of Its Citizen

Sweden Summons Iraqi Envoy on Execution of Its Citizen.

Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iraqi ambassador after a Swedish-Iraqi citizen was executed by Baghdad government on terror charges.
The man, in his 60s, was among dozens of convicts whom the Iraqi judicial authorities hanged earlier this week, said The Local.
Swedish PM Stefan Löfven has now personally taken up the case with Iraq.
"We've had intensive consular activity since we were made aware of this. We protested the death sentence and took it up at a high level with the Iraqi representatives," foreign minister deputy director Patric Nilsson told news agency TT.
The executed individual was sentenced to death by and Iraqi court back in 2010, ever since he has been serving behind the bars.
"I have no details, but we know that this person has been in prison in Iraq, accused of terror offences,” PM Stefan Löfven explained.
